Mary's Profile

Mary is a  Certified Veterinary Technician and started Ask Mary Pet Sitting in January, 1995.

Mary is a graduate of SPJC now known as SPC with an Associates Degree in Veterinary Technology.  She has 100 hours towards her Bachelors Degree with the University of South Florida.  Her love for animals prompted her to offer people an alternative to kenneling their pets after working at veterinarian facilities as well as an emergency animal hospital.  "Many animals do fine in a kennel situation, however, there are many more that do not.  Having an alternative to a kennel is an option many people were unaware of."  Mary does her best to educate people regarding an alternative to the kennel.  "Pets usually are much happier and less stressed when allowed to remain in their own environment."  After a serious back injury Mary has resigned from school and focuses on her pet family and pet sitting service.  Below are pictures of the family pets.

A picture of the girls:  (Amy, Peanut, & Sissy)

Amy has gone to Animal Heaven and so has Sissy.

Peanut is the last remaining pet and she gets to go just about every place I can take her.

Mary's Family Pets

Lacy.....

In memory of Lacy.  Lacy helped Mary get through Vet Tech school as her practice patient.  Lacy is still loved and missed.  Mary believes Lacy lives through another member of the family, Peanut.  Peanut has acquired Lacy's disposition of growling  when she doesn't want to do something she's told to do (much like many humans).  Peanut and Lacy had the pleasure of living together for nine months before Lacy was put to rest.  Mary believes Lacy taught Peanut how to carry out some of Lacy's behaviors.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Here she is!!!

PEANUT (dachshund mix)

...This is my baby - companion, best friend, buddy, unconditional love giver, no human could ever replace (humans hold onto resentments too much).  We have a bond no one could relate to except us (and pet lovers like yourself).  This is my true friend, Peanut Marie Purcell.  Rescued from Animal Services in Pinellas County on April 11, 1996 at six weeks old and has been the TOP dog in my family ever since. How could you not love a face like this?

AMY

Amy was an Abyssinian cat born August, 1998.  Amy was given to Mary by a breeder who was unable to bread her when she had to have a c-section her first litter.  Amy was one of those lover cats.  She had a very unique personality and is very loving.  She likes to play with the dogs and Mary sometimes thinks Amy wants to be a dog.  They act like the 3 stooges, always playing around.

Sissie...

Sissie was the newest addition to the family.  She's a Miniature Pincher (Min-Pin).  She was a real challenge to potty train.  She kept Peanut on her toes playing.  Sissie was born in October, 1999.   This is a picture showing how much Peanut and Sissie loved each other.  They were inseparable.

THE REEF CREATURES:

FISHTANK

This was  the 90 gallon reef tank Mary previously owned.  It's hard to see the true beauty in a photo. A reef tank can keep you very peaceful  watching the corals move with the water,  the fish swimming, and the behavior of invertebrates.  Taking classes at USF for Coral Reefs and Marine Biology helped Mary create a living reef in a tank. Clients that have aquariums feel very comfortable leaving their tanks in Mary's care while on vacation.
